All pieces are designed and made in our studios in Western MA. We pride ourselves on using only the highest grade professional components, including:
Beading Wire: made from 49 strands of braided stainless steel coated with nylon.
Sterling Silver: from Bali, Thailand, Israel, India and the United States. Much of the silver used is hand-made. The silver from Thailand is made by the Karen Tribe and contains a higher grade of silver, which is less likely to tarnish. All the wire that is in our pieces sterling silver or gold filled, both of which add to the uniqueness and quality of each piece.
Dichroic Glass: Handmade, colorful, unique and dynamic pieces, each of which are like looking at miniature paperweights. Handmade dichroic glass beads often seem to catch the light in such a way that the color changes depending on the angle.
Gemstones: What can we say? We have been collecting precious and semi-precious gemstones for so long that there is a huge selection to choose from when creating new pieces. We are both drawn to color, texture, and size – often using large stones as center pendants. You will see from our pieces that we often use turquoise, amethyst, jasper, moonstone, citrine, aquamarine, lapis lazuli and tiger eye, to name a few.
If you are looking for a particular gemstone that you do not see on the website, contact one of us as we have many more gemstones to choose from.
Swarovski Crystals: There are many crystal companies that try to compete with Swarovski, but they do not come close. Swarovski is the standard, both in terms of color and durability. It is the only company that we use to buy crystals and we am never disappointed.
Handmade Lampwork Glass Beads: As we’ve stated before, we love the color and texture of glass, and lampwork beads can add so much to a particular piece of jewelry. We also believe that it is important to support local artisans and we buy lampwork beads from the artists who make them.
Polymer Clay beads: There is such a range of designs and artistry with polymer clay beads. The ones we purchase are special in that they have the look of unusual beads, but very little weight so light to wear. As with lampwork glass beads, we do not purchase mass produced beads for our jewelry.
Other beads that we regularly use include freshwater pearls, handmade ceramic beads, bone, resin and trade beads. We will find unusual beads and keep them for long periods of time until the right combination pops into our head and then the piece is created. At different points, each of us has been called a “beadaholic” and “bead addict” many times and we laugh about that while admitting there is some truth to that.
